Softball Recap: Urbana Hillclimbers vs. Shawnee Braves
Urbana had lost 14 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 1-22 to make it 15. They came up short against the Shawnee Braves, falling 18-0. The Hillclimbers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Braves from their previous meeting back in May of 2023.
As for Shawnee, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 20-3. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Shawnee's part, Alee Trimmer made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Trimmer has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lilly Adams was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and three doubles. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Emma George was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.
Coming up, Urbana will square off against Indian Lake at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Shawnee, they will challenge London at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Braves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red Raiders have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season.
