Recap: Canton Chiefs vs. Novi Wildcats
The Canton Chiefs entered their tilt with the Novi Wildcats with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Canton walked away with a 54-42 win over Novi on Tuesday. Given Canton's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while Novi is ranked 152nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Canton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Devon Pettus led the charge by scoring 12 points. Another player making a difference was Teddy Winstel, who scored 11 points.
Novi's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chase LeFevre, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. LeFevre is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Lauer, who scored 12 points.
Canton's win bumped their record up to 14-3. As for Novi, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-7.
Canton will square off against Salem at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Canton is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.1 points per game this season. As for Novi, they will head out on the road to face off against Northville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Novi is facing Northville at the right time seeing as Northville is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
