Baseball Recap: Wayne Takes a Loss

Wayne had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 14-9 to make it four. They took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Norfolk Panthers. The Blue Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Gavin Redden was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

As for Norfolk, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-12. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games.

On Norfolk's side, Ethan Synovec made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Synovec has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ayden Papstein, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since April 5th. Jordan Schnoor was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wayne will venture away from home to face off against Lincoln Lutheran at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Norfolk, they will head out to challenge Millard South at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season.
