Preview: Willow Spring Storm vs. Fuquay - Varina Bengals

Willow Spring is 5-0 against Fuquay - Varina since December of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Willow Spring Storm will head out on the road to face off against the Fuquay - Varina Bengals at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Willow Spring has six straight victories, Fuquay - Varina has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Even though Apex Friendship scored an imposing 57 points on Tuesday, Willow Spring still came out on top. Willow Spring skirted past Apex Friendship 59-57. The score was all tied up 31-31 at the break, but Willow Spring was the better team in the second half.

Willow Spring's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kayleen Grullon, who scored 19 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Grullon has scored at least 25% of Willow Spring's points. Korin Gladden was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.

Meanwhile, Fuquay - Varina had to suffer through a rough 59-30 loss at the hands of Middle Creek. Fuquay - Varina has not had much luck with Middle Creek recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Their wins bumped Willow Spring to 6-0 and Apex Friendship to 2-1.

Everything came up roses for Willow Spring against Fuquay - Varina in their previous matchup back in February as the team secured a 64-22 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Willow Spring since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
