Softball Game Preview: Montrose Meteors vs. Elk Lake Warriors

Montrose hasn't had much luck against Elk Lake recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Meteors will square off against the Warriors at 4:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Montrose sitting on three straight victories and Elk Lake on eight.

Montrose gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on Blue Ridge with a sharp 14-4 win. Considering the Meteors have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Jocelyn Traver was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Traver was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Violet Conning was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Allison Jennings was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Montrose was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .593. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Elk Lake got the win against Mountain View on Monday by a conclusive 18-1. That looming 18-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Warriors yet this season.

Elk Lake pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Montrose, their record now sits at 7-4.

Montrose might still be hurting after the 17-4 defeat they got from Elk Lake when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Meteors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
