Softball Preview: Corinth Warriors vs. South Panola Tigers

The Corinth Warriors will be playing in front of their home fans against the South Panola Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Corinth is headed into the contest fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let West Point onto the board and left with a 21-0 win on Thursday. Corinth's pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last four matchups.

Callie Pounders looked comfortable as she pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, Corinth got a massive performance out of Lainey Briggs, who went 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Maggie Parchman, who went 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Meanwhile, South Panola waltzed into their game on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They beat the Chargers by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 8-0. Give South Panola's pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Not much got past Sadie Bright, who gave up just one hit and racked up 13 Ks to keep Choctaw County off the board.

At the plate, South Panola's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Nia Fondren, who went 1-for-3 with a home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenzie Houston, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a double.

Corinth is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for South Panola, their win was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 23-3.

Corinth was able to grind out a solid victory over South Panola in their previous meeting back in April of 2015, winning 4-1.
