Baseball Recap: Simon Kenton's Run of Three Straight Victories Now Over

Simon Kenton was the 9-1 winner over Walton-Verona when they last played one another back in May of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Pioneers fell 6-3 to the Bearcats on Wednesday. The Pioneers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Simon Kenton got a good showing from Cash Hoard, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hoard has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Simon Kenton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Piper, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Jag Ruebel was another, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Simon Kenton's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3-3. As for Walton-Verona, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Simon Kenton will venture away from home to face off against Holy Cross at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pioneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
