Softball Recap: Vancleave Triumphs

Vancleave lost to St. Martin back in February of 2025, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Bulldogs came out on top against the Yellow Jackets by a score of 5-2.

Sophia Wilson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Brianna Webster was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Peyton Steinwinder was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.

Vancleave always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2025.

The victory got Vancleave back to even at 4-4. As for St. Martin, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Vancleave will venture away from home to take on Hancock at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Martin, they will head out to square off against Long Beach at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bearcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.25 runs per game on average), something the Yellow Jackets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
