Softball Recap: McCreary Central Comes Up Short

Lincoln County hit McCreary Central with a four-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Raiders fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 7-6. The Raiders have struggled against the Patriots recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

Ava Stephens was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Stephens was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Those doubles marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Madison Ryan was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ray Upchurch, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

McCreary Central's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Lincoln County, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-16.

Looking ahead, McCreary Central will host Jackson County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lincoln County, they will head out to face off against Thomas Nelson at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
