Basketball Recap: North Edgecombe Takes a Loss

North Edgecombe was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 77-36 loss at the hands of the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars. The matchup marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

A'Chonacey Mabry was her usual excellent self, going 15 for 22 on her way to 33 points and eight steals for SouthWest Edgecombe. The contest was Mabry's third in a row with at least ten points. Deniya Mayo was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

North Edgecombe now has a losing record at 3-4. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.

North Edgecombe and SouthWest Edgecombe should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. North Edgecombe (ranked 229th) will meet Southeast Halifax (ranked 492nd) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, SouthWest Edgecombe (ranked 55th) will meet North Pitt (ranked 318th) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
