Baseball Game Preview: Bonita Bearcats vs. Great Oak Wolfpack

The Bonita Bearcats will challenge the Great Oak Wolfpack at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Bonita will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Bonita is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Claremont a 12-0 shutout on Saturday. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Daniel Nageer tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Joaquin Covarrubias, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Judah Reeve, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Great Oak was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Torrance. That's two games in a row now that the Wolfpack have lost by exactly two runs.

Great Oak saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Fien, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Wes Shanabarger also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Bonita's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Great Oak, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.

Bonita couldn't quite get it done against Great Oak in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 7-2. Can Bonita avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
