Softball Recap: Cumberland Dukes vs. Randolph-Henry Statesmen
Cumberland extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 2-9. They came up short against the Randolph-Henry Statesmen, falling 9-1. If the Dukes were looking for revenge after losing 10-5 to the Statesmen when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Karma Dudley was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
As for Randolph-Henry, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-5. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by six runs or more this season.
On Randolph-Henry's side, Kendall Snead and MacKenzie Barton made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Snead didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Meanwhile, Barton tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the most strikeouts Snead has posted since back in April of 2025. At the plate, Snead got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run and one RBI, while Barton went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Glenna Vereen, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2025. Piper Toombs also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.
Coincidentally, Cumberland and Randolph-Henry will both be playing Amelia County the next time they take the field. The Statesmen will head out to face the Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Dukes will host them at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
