Basketball Recap: Meridian Wins Going Away Against Lewiston

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer, Meridian was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 41-25 win over the Lewiston Tigers. That 16 point margin sets a new team best for the Mustangs this season.

It was another big night for Jaylee Sobotka, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. Taelyn Filipi was another key player, putting up six points along with 12 boards and three steals.

Meridian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maddie Janssen, who posted nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryleigh Crouse, who had eight points.

Meridian's victory bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Lewiston, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Meridian will square off against McCool Junction at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meridian is facing McCool Junction at the right time seeing as McCool Junction is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Lewiston, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Lewiston Tigers face off against the Cedar Bluffs Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lewiston has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
