Basketball Recap: Gillespie Takes a Loss

Gillespie played a tough match on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Roxana Shells, falling 65-45. The Miners have struggled against the Shells recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Sean Maberry was his usual excellent self, going 10 for 16 on his way to 20 points along with eight assists and five boards for Roxana. That's the most assists Maberry has posted since back in November of 2024. Jake Newton was another key player, going 7 of 10 en route to 14 points and six rebounds.

Gillespie's defeat dropped their record down to 5-17. As for Roxana, their record now sits at 11-14.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gillespie will take on Staunton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Staunton will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Gillespie surely won't give up without a fight. As for Roxana, they will face off against East Alton-Wood River at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
