Baseball Recap: Benjamin Franklin Gets the Win

Benjamin Franklin came out on top against Payson on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run fifth inning. The Chargers walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Longhorns. The Chargers haven't had any issues with the Longhorns recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Talan Speir made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Alex Pieczynski was excellent, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Sedig, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Benjamin Franklin's record now sits at 13-6. As for Payson, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Benjamin Franklin will host Tonopah Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Payson, they will be playing at home against Northwest Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Crusaders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Longhorns' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
