McCandless St John made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Hayley Bedford was incredible, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Kaitlyn Vernon was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, North Lenoir made easy work of Southwest Onslow on Friday and carried off an 18-4 victory. The win continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Stallions: they've now won four in a row.
Like Rosewood, North Lenoir also got a great game from a two-way player: Maddie Rouse. On the mound, she pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Rouse has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lakyn Whitley, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, two triples, and two stolen bases. Alyssa Hatcher also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.
North Lenoir kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Rosewood's record now sits at 11-2. As for North Lenoir, their record is now 9-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Rosewood has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.8 hits per game. However, it's not like North Lenoir struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rosewood couldn't quite finish off North Lenoir in their previous matchup back in March of 2017 and fell 2-0. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
