Basketball Recap: Dwyer Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

Dwyer hadn't done well against Palm Beach Gardens recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Dwyer Panthers skirted past the Palm Beach Gardens Gators 50-47. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Panthers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 200th, while the Gators are ranked 78th).

Dwyer got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was C'Orna Greene out in front who went 5 for 12 en route to 12 points and six boards. Greene has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Maressa Deitch, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.

Despite the loss, Palm Beach Gardens still got an impressive performance from Azariah Marrero, who posted 17 points in addition to seven assists and four steals. Latasha Whyte was another key player, putting up eight points and eight boards.

Dwyer's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-9. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Palm Beach Gardens, they moved to 10-6 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Dwyer won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Martin County at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Palm Beach Gardens, they will square off against Palm Beach Lakes at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
