Baseball Recap: Bernalillo Takes a Loss

Bernalillo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Albuquerque Academy Chargers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chargers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-1 back in March.

Uriel Castro spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on nine hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Bernalillo saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Christian Sanchez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Bernalillo now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Albuquerque Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bernalillo will face off against Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Albuquerque Academy, they will take on Belen at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Chargers will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matches.
