Basketball Recap: Creede Comes Up Short

Creede lost against Sierra Grande back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Creede Miners fell 39-32 to the Sierra Grande Panthers.

When it comes to explaining why Creede lost, don't look at Jasmin Laing. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten steals. Laing is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 41 games she's played dating back to last season.

Sierra Grande's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaylyn Quezada, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 15 steals. The dominant performance gave Quezada a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Yazmin Molina, who posted six points in addition to five boards and four blocks.

Creede's defeat dropped their record down to 13-10. As for Sierra Grande, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-9.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Creede will face off against Fleming at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sierra Grande, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Sierra Grande Panthers take on Cheyenne Wells Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
