Basketball Game Preview: Yuba City Honkers vs. Nevada Union Miners

Yuba City is 4-0 against Nevada Union since January of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Yuba City Honkers will look to defend their home court against the Nevada Union Miners at 7:30 p.m. Yuba City is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.8 points per game this season.

Yuba City will head into Thursday's match out to bounce back: they won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Thursday. They came up short against Placer, falling 65-41. While losing is never fun, the Honkers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 780th, while the Hillmen are ranked 77th).

Yuba City's loss came about despite a quality game from Travis Lomeli, who posted six points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Those four steals gave Lomeli a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Armstrong, who scored six points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Nevada Union was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 64-53 to Roseville.

Nevada Union's loss dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Yuba City, they dropped their record down to 7-14 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Yuba City was able to grind out a solid victory over Nevada Union in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, winning 53-42. Does Yuba City have another victory up their sleeve, or will Nevada Union turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
