Preview: Smoky Mountain Mustangs vs. North Henderson Knights
Smoky Mountain is 1-9 against North Henderson since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Smoky Mountain Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the North Henderson Knights at 7:30 p.m. Smoky Mountain is hoping to put an end to a 13-game streak of away losses.
Smoky Mountain suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They fell just short of Pisgah by a score of 81-79. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Custer Prenger, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ben Brown, who scored 24 points.
Even though they lost, Smoky Mountain smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. This was only their 11th loss (out of 15 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Meanwhile, even though Pisgah scored an imposing 75 points on Thursday, North Henderson still came out on top. North Henderson took their contest against Pisgah 82-75.
Smoky Mountain has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season. As for North Henderson, their victory bumped their record up to 14-5.
Smoky Mountain opened the new year with a less-than-successful 71-59 defeat to North Henderson. Can Smoky Mountain avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
