Berlin Brothersvalley is 9-1 against North Star since December of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Berlin Brothersvalley Mountaineers will head out to square off against the North Star Cougars at 7:15 p.m. Berlin Brothersvalley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.4 points per game this season.
Berlin Brothersvalley is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Windber on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Berlin Brothersvalley came up short against Windber, falling 58-37. The Mountaineers were down 41-18 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Joseph Richardson, who posted four points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was McKelvey Foor, who had 11 points and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, North Star waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They took their game with ease, bagging a 69-13 victory over the Rockets. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 28 points or more this season.
North Star had a senior duo take command as Ethan Smith went 9 of 14 on his way to 20 points in addition to eight boards and five steals and Andy Retassie dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Smith's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Maurer, who posted eight points and three steals.
North Star smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive contests.
North Star's win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points per game. As for Berlin Brothersvalley, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Berlin Brothersvalley has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like North Star struggles in that department as they've been averaging 39.3 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Berlin Brothersvalley came up short against North Star when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 54-49. Can Berlin Brothersvalley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
