League recap: Centennial gains ground in national rankings

Centennial made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,446 from 10,784. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 28-21 victory over Socorro last week.

The Hawks led 4A District 3 in scoring this week after putting up 28 points on the Warriors.

5-foot-10 quarterback A.J. Sedillo of Santa Teresa is the league leader in passing yards this season with 932. He has also thrown six touchdowns. On the ground, Deming's Ismail Garrett has rushed for 929 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Christian Ramos. The Chaparral star has 35 catches for 426 yards.

Garrett of the the Wildcats is only 71 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Desert Warriors take on Centennial. As it stands, Santa Teresa is in third, while the Hawks are in second.
