Piedmont and West Stanly are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. The Panthers will challenge the Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Piedmont is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
It was a proper cat-fight when Piedmont duked it out with Central Academy on Wednesday. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Cougars. Considering the Panthers have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Tara Deese was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Reagan Loving, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Piedmont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, West Stanly had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Wolf Pack by a score of 4-1.
Madi Whitley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, West Stanly saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Saylor Edwards, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
West Stanly pushed their record up to 20-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Piedmont, their record is now 18-5.
Piedmont beat West Stanly 5-1 when the teams last played back in April. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Colts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
