Basketball Recap: American Falls Despite Big Games from Dylan Jawei Lee and Arman Mahavni

American was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They fell 59-48 to the Newark Memorial Cougars. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 57-31 back in December of 2024.

American's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Arman Mahavni, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards, and Dylan JaWei Lee, who went 6 for 14 en route to 18 points. With that strong performance, Lee is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game.

American's defeat dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Newark Memorial, they now have a winning record of 11-10.

American will head out on the road to square off against James Logan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. American is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.2 points per game this season. Newark Memorial has already played their next matchup (against Irvington), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
