Basketball Recap: Northeastern Jets vs. Fairbanks Panthers
Northeastern was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 36th straight loss dating back to last season. They were dealt a 68-9 defeat at the hands of the Fairbanks Panthers. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Jets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 68-13 back in December of 2024.
Allie Peterson was Northeastern's leading scorer, having posted six points.
Leading Fairbanks to victory were Ally Gearheart and Grace Zahn. Gearheart went 6 of 14 en route to 15 points along with five boards and four steals, while Zahn went 5 for 12 on her way to 10 points and five rebounds. Those five rebounds gave Gearheart a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley DaRe, who posted six points and five steals.
Northeastern's loss dropped their record down to 0-22. As for Fairbanks, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-8.
Northeastern will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Anna at 5:00 p.m. on February 15th. Fairbanks has already played their next matchup, a 55-37 loss against Buckeye Valley on the 3rd.
