Softball Game Preview: Lugoff-Elgin Demons vs. Sumter Gamecocks

The Lugoff-Elgin Demons will square off against the Sumter Gamecocks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Lugoff-Elgin has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Sumter will arrive with three straight victories.

On Wednesday, Lugoff-Elgin didn't have quite enough to beat Chapin and fell 7-6. That's two games in a row now that the Demons have lost by just one run.

Emaree Ray made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Sheorn, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Sumter ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Lugoff-Elgin 2-1.

Lillie Ivey spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up 16 Ks. Those 16 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Ariana Evans was excellent, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

Sumter pushed their record up to 8-3-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lugoff-Elgin, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.
