Volleyball Recap: Watervliet Cannoneers vs. Albany Academy Bears

Watervliet proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by three) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Albany Academy Bears, sneaking past 3-2. For the Cannoneers, this counts as revenge for the 3-0 win the Bears walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2017.

Watervliet wouldn't go down easily and took Albany Academy into a fifth set where they got it done with a six-point win. The final score came out to 13-25, 25-15, 25-22, 23-25, 15-9.

Janaya Wilkerson paced Watervliet's offense, picking up 11 kills. Wilkerson got some help from Sophia Rogers and her 23 assists. Rogers was also solid from the service line: she led the team with ten aces.

Watervliet's victory bumped their record up to 2-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Watervliet will venture away from home to take on Chatham at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Albany Academy, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Emma Willard at 6:00 p.m. on the 25th.
