Flag Football Game Preview: St. Mary's Academy Belles vs. Saint Joseph Jesters

The St. Mary's Academy Belles will take on the Saint Joseph Jesters at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (St. Mary's Academy 8.8, Saint Joseph 8.7) so any points scored will be well earned.

St. Mary's Academy is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 32 points on Monday, they were much more limited against Serra on Wednesday. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 13-12 to the Cavaliers. The Belles' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Saint Joseph never got on the board in their matchup on Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against St. Anthony on Wednesday. They walked away with a 33-21 win over the Saints. Given the Jesters' advantage in MaxPreps' California flag football rankings (they are ranked 11th, while the Saints are ranked 271st) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

A big part of Saint Joseph's victory came down to the chemistry between Lexi Loya and her top target Jaclynn Brennan. Loya threw for 311 yards and five TDs while Brennan picked up 126 receiving yards and a pair of scores. That's the most receiving yards Brennan has posted since back in August.

Saint Joseph didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kira Cambero and Loya.

St. Mary's Academy's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Saint Joseph, their win bumped their record up to 17-2.
