Basketball Recap: Durango's Loss Ends Three-Game Winning Streak on the Road

Durango lost against Fruita Monument back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Durango Demons fell to the Fruita Monument Wildcats 45-39.

When it comes to explaining why Durango lost, don't look at Claire Goodwin. Despite the final result, she went 6-for-12 to rack up 15 points along with seven boards and four steals. Another player making a difference was Ellie White, who posted nine points.

Fruita Monument's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olivia Campbell, who earned 15 points and three steals. Campbell is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in each of the last five games she's played. Sophie Emerson was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to seven rebounds and five blocks.

Durango's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.3 points over those games. As for Fruita Monument, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.

Durango and Fruita Monument are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Durango will square off against Greeley Central at 2:00 p.m. on March 1st. That contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Madison Sepeda and Goodwin. As for Fruita Monument, they will look to defend their home court on March 1st against Ralston Valley at 12:00 p.m. Ralston Valley has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight defeats, while Fruita Monument will come in with ten straight wins.
