Baseball Game Preview: Clearfield Falcons vs. Spanish Fork Dons

For the second straight game, Clearfield will face off against Spanish Fork. The Falcons will square off against the Dons at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Friday just wasn't the day for Clearfield's offense. They came up short against Spanish Fork on Friday, falling 9-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Falcons have suffered since May 17, 2024.

For Spanish Fork's part, they got a great performance from Swae Nielson as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave Nielson a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Pratt Morley was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Boston Duvall, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Spanish Fork kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.

Spanish Fork's record is now 10-16. As for Clearfield, their loss dropped their record down to 13-13.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Clearfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Spanish Fork struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.1 strikeouts.
