Football Preview: Jay County Patriots vs. Woodlan Warriors
Jay County is 1-9 against Woodlan since September of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Jay County Patriots will host the Woodlan Warriors at 7:00 p.m.
Last Friday, Jay County came up short against Bluffton and fell 34-25. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Woodlan). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Southern Wells 50-13 at home. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Warriors considering their seven-point performance the game before.
DREW FLEEK had a dynamite game for Woodlan, rushing for 71 yards and three touchdowns on only seven carries. FLEEK also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up a sack and making two total tackles. Shaiden Snyder was another key back, rushing for 58 yards and a touchdown.
He was just one part of a punishing run game: Woodlan was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 289 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern Wells only rushed for 63.
Woodlan's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged six passes before it was all said and done. Cooper Smith led the group effort, picking up three of those interceptions all by himself.
Jay County now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Woodlan, their win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-3.
Jay County didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Woodlan in their previous matchup back in September of 2023, but they still walked away with a 34-29 victory.
