Baseball Recap: Western Victorious

Western was not the first on the board on Thursday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 12-7 victory over the Deerfield Beach Bucks. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Bucks: they've now won three in a row.

Jimmy Huard tossed a big game, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits.

At the plate, Miguel Tapia and Taisuky Rodriguez did most of the damage at the plate: Tapia scored two runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Rodriguez a new career-high. Jorge Falagan was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three RBI.

Western's record now sits at 7-4. As for Deerfield Beach, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.

Western and Deerfield Beach should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Western (ranked 106th) will meet Cooper City (ranked 388th) at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Western is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
