Softball Recap: Tiverton Tigers vs. Cranston East Thunderbolts
While Tiverton couldn't quite beat Cranston East on Monday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 12-point defeat they were dealt last Saturday. The Tiverton Tigers fell just short of the Cranston East Thunderbolts by a score of 4-2. Tiverton was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Cranston East apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.
Abby DeMello spent all seven innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those seven innings set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, Tiverton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sara Poland, who went 1-for-3 with a double.
Even though they lost, Tiverton didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with 11 strikeouts. That's the most strikeouts they've managed all season.
On Cranston East's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings played and she was also dialed-in: Isabella Sousa gave up only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 13 Ks.
At the plate, Leanna Garcia was excellent, going 2-for-3 with a home run and a double. Jaeda Viveiros was another key contributor, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tiverton will take on Davies Career & Tech at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Davies Career & Tech and Tiverton are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads. As for Cranston East, they will head out on the road to square off against Central at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
