Basketball Recap: Basic Comes Up Short

Basic was the 68-41 winner over Needles when they last played one another back in January of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. 2026 welcomed the Wolves with a 58-33 loss courtesy of the Mustangs on Thursday.

Despite the loss, Basic still got an impressive performance from Mia Frias, who posted 20 points. Frias' afternoon made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tiara Tucker, who put up seven points.

Gianna Collier had a dynamite gamefor Needles, dropping a double-double with 21 points and 11 boards. What's more, Collier racked up six assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tomi Trescartes, who shot 83% from the field to rack up 10 points.

Basic's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Needles, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-4.

Coincidentally, Basic and Needles will both be playing Somerset Academy Losee the next time they take the court. The Mustangs will head out to face the Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Wolves will head out to face them at 2:15 p.m. on Friday.
