Football Recap: Matthew Sprochi Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Bishop Rosecrans

After only 12 points in their last contest, Catholic Central made sure to put some points up on the board against Bishop Rosecrans on Saturday. The Crusaders walked away with a 52-45 win over the Bishops. The victory continues a trend for the Crusaders in their matchups with the Bishops: they've now won six in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Catholic Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Matthew Sprochi, who rushed for 160 yards and one TD while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. What's more, Sprochi racked up 102.1 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Another back making a difference was Ryan Holzworth, who rushed for 53 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Catholic Central was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 241 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 152 rushing yards in seven consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Catholic Central didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off six passes before the game was over. Sprochi led the group effort, picking up three of those interceptions all by himself. Zach Bryan got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

When it comes to explaining why Bishop Rosecrans lost, don't look at Hayden Perdue. Despite the final result, he threw for 312 yards and five TDs, and also rushed for 36 yards and one score. Perdue is crushing it when it comes to passing touchdowns: he's passed for at least three every time he's taken the field this season.

Catholic Central now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Bishop Rosecrans, their loss was their first of the season and also makes their record 2-1.

Catholic Central and Bishop Rosecrans will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Crusaders are set to square off against their familiar foe Bridgeport at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Bishop Rosecrans will challenge rival Grove City Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
