Basketball Game Preview: Maquoketa Cardinals vs. Iowa City Little Hawks

The Maquoketa Cardinals will head out on the road to square off against the Iowa City Little Hawks on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Iowa City will be up against a hot Maquoketa squad: the team just extended their winning streak to seven. Maquoketa beat Camanche on Friday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 59-33. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while the Indians are ranked 135th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Iowa City was fully in charge on Tuesday, breezing past Dubuque Senior 63-29. The Little Hawks haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Maquoketa's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points over those games. As for Iowa City, their record now sits at 21-7.

Maquoketa and Iowa City were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in January, but Maquoketa came up empty-handed after a 49-48 loss. Can Maquoketa avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
