Basketball Recap: Cypress Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Cypress suffered their closest defeat since December 7, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Servite Friars by a score of 81-78. While the Centurions didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Friars 22-11 in the first quarter.

It was another big night for Jake Schutt, who shot 75% from the field en route to 28 points and seven rebounds for Servite. Those 75% field goal percentage gave Schutt a new career-high. Saiger Smith was another key player, going 8-for-13 on his way to 18 points and six boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Cypress and nudges their season record down to 4-2. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.0 points over those games. As for Servite, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.

Coming up, Cypress won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against St. Anthony at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Centurions will be up against the Saints' rather soft defense (which has allowed 58 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Servite, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Esperanza at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Friars will need to watch out since the Aztecs have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
