Football Recap: Crest Skates Past Asheville with Ease

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Crest's strategy against Asheville on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Chargers blew the Cougars out of the water with a 55-12 final score. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Chargers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Cougars are ranked 78th).

Crest got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jason Black out in front who rushed for 59 yards and one score. Michael Edwards was in the mix as well, providing the Chargers with two touchdowns.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Crest, adding 19 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Edwards, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a punt return touchdown from Namajay Thompson.

Crest didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Donovan Walton and Taveon Whisnant. Whisnant got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

When it comes to explaining why Asheville lost, don't look at Clement Davidson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 115 yards and one TD. Davidson showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 62 yards.

The victory was the third in a row for Crest, bringing their record up to 3-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 47.0 points this season. As for Asheville, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Crest didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 31-10 loss against Weddington on the 12th. As for Asheville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 39-21 victory against Asheville School (Independent) on the 12th.
