Saxony Lutheran piles up the points against St. Paul Lutheran

Recap: Saxony Lutheran Crusaders vs. St. Paul Lutheran Giants

Make it seven blowout wins for the Saxony Lutheran Crusaders this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat St. Paul Lutheran 66-23 at home. The victory was just what Saxony Lutheran needed coming off of a 72-51 loss in their prior contest.

Saxony Lutheran got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Rebecca Johnson out in front who scored 22 points along with four steals and two blocks. Johnson hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. Evie Caruso was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.

Despite the loss, St. Paul Lutheran still got an impressive performance from Mia Sherrill, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and six blocks. Sherrill has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 11 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Pippa Detring, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, St. Paul Lutheran struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.

Saxony Lutheran is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for St. Paul Lutheran, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-8.

Saxony Lutheran will square off against Neelyville at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Neelyville will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings (they are ranked 257th, while Saxony Lutheran is ranked 115th). St. Paul Lutheran will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Grandview at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd.
