Recap: Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Mustangs vs. Overton Eagles
After a string of six wins, the Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Mustangs's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 69-55 bruising from Overton. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
When it comes to explaining why Sumner-Eddyville-Miller lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mikah O'Neill. Despite the final result, she scored 28 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. That was a full 50.9% of Sumner-Eddyville-Miller's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taryn Arbuthnot, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Overton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Natalie Wood, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 17 rebounds. Wood hasn't dropped below 12 rebounds for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Ashlyn Florell, who scored 16 points along with seven steals and five assists.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller's defeat dropped their record down to 17-2. As for Overton, the victory was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-1.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Pleasanton at 6:00 p.m. on February 5th. Sumner-Eddyville-Miller is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 55.8 points per game this season. As for Overton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wilcox-Hildreth at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Overton is on a 15-game streak of home wins, Wilcox-Hildreth a seven-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
