The Juan Diego Catholic Soaring Eagle will venture away from home to square off against the Westlake Thunder at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Juan Diego Catholic took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They never let Judge Memorial Catholic get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Soaring Eagle in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won nine in a row.
Ellie Palmer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. That stolen base was her first of the season.

Meanwhile, Westlake faced West Jordan in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. Westlake was the clear victor by a 23-7 margin over West Jordan. That 16 run margin sets a new team best for the Thunder this season.
Brilynn Attebery made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Attebery was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
In other batting news, Claire DuBois and Audrey Sherman did most of the damage at the plate: DuBois went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Sherman went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinzie Bailey, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.
Juan Diego Catholic's record is now 6-4. As for Westlake, their record now sits at 6-2.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Juan Diego Catholic has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .523. However, it's not like Westlake struggles in that department as they've averaged .514. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Juan Diego Catholic suffered a grim 11-5 defeat to Westlake in their previous meeting back in March of 2017. Can Juan Diego Catholic avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
