Softball Recap: Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Starts Season with Victory at Home

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Harlingen Cardinals with a sharp 9-3 victory. The Bears haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Arieanna Hernandez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Azul Rios and Aubrey Garza did most of the damage at the plate: Rios went 2-for-4 with two triples, two RBI, and one run, while Garza went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave Rios a new career-high in triples. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Lugo, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

Coming up, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo will challenge Harlingen at 9:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Harlingen, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Cardinals face off against the Bobcats at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
