Baseball Game Preview: Cottondale Hornets vs. Holmes County Blue Devils

The Cottondale Hornets will take on the Holmes County Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.

Last Wednesday, Cottondale came up short against Knoxville Central and fell 8-4. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Alex Bellamy and Carson Maloy stepped up to the plate in a big way. Bellamy scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Maloy scored two runs while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance gave Maloy a new career-high in runs. Another player making a difference was Conner Barton, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Holmes County came tearing into Wednesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Chiefs.

Bradley Garrett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bryant Mathis was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Cottondale's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Holmes County, their win bumped their record up to 13-3.
