High school basketball: Five-star Kentucky signee D.J. Wagner surpasses 2,000 career points with 40-point effort

Five-star Camden (N.J.) senior D.J. Wagner surpassed 2,000 career points Thursday night, tying his career-high with 40 points in a 90-52 victory over Bishop Eustace Prep (Pennsauken, N.J.). The No. 4 ranked player in the Class of 2023 stands at 2,005 points over his four seasons at Camden with two regular-season games remaining.

This year the Kentucky signee has guided the 21-2 Panthers to the No. 6 spot in the MaxPreps Top 25.

The 6-foot-3 guard also joined his father Dajuan (3,462 points) and his grandfather Milt (2,003 points) in the 2,000-point club, becoming the first family in high school basketball history to have three generations pass that threshold.

The Wagner family is arguably the most decorated family in high school basketball history after making headlines last month when D.J. became the first third generation McDonald's All-American selection, following in the steps of Milt (1981) and Dajuan (2001).

Wagner also scored 40 points in his team's previous outing, a 114-46 victory over Winslow on Monday. He was named Thursday to the 10-player MaxPreps National Player of the Year watch list and is now averaging 23.0 points this year.
