The Robstown Cottonpickers will take on the Port Isabel Tarpons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Robstown has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with three straight losses, while Port Isabel will come in with four straight wins.
Robstown is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Cuero on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Cottonpickers came up short against the Gobblers, falling 41-20. Despite the defeat, Robstown had strong showings from Trevin Crowley, who threw for 214 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.7 yards per attempt, and Miles Rodriguez, who picked up 103 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Crowley's passing game has become a key predictor of the Cottonpickers' success: the team is 4-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 2-3 otherwise.
Meanwhile, Port Isabel was fully in charge two weeks ago, breezing past Grulla 42-10. The result was nothing new for the Tarpons, who have now won four matchups by 23 points or more so far this season.
Robstown better keep an eye on Luis Ramos. He was instrumental in Port Isabel's win, rushing for 183 yards and three scores on only seven carries. Tristan Green made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Port Isabel was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 454 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September.
Port Isabel's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB four times. Grulla's QB won't forget Jahi Vasquez anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Green got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Robstown's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Port Isabel, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 6-4.
