Baseball Game Preview: Vandalia Vandals vs. Carlyle Indians/Lady Indians

The Vandalia Vandals will venture away from home to face off against the Carlyle Indians/Lady Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Carlyle took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Vandalia, who comes in off a win.

Vandalia was handed a ten-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Dieterich 5-3.

The team relied heavily on Qwentyn Stombaugh, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Drew Jones, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Carlyle was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 12-1 to Centralia.

Carlyle saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Ruscher, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Carlyle now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Vandalia, their win ended an eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-14.

Vandalia was able to grind out a solid victory over Carlyle when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 10-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vandals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
