Basketball Recap: Carrizozo Takes a Loss

Carrizozo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 18th straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by the Mountainair Mustangs 62-8. The Grizzlies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Mountainair was led to victory by Gabriella Knoten and Bianca Lopez. Knoten dropped a double-double with 22 points and 12 boards, while Lopez posted 17 points. The dominant performance gave Lopez a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Amanda Hamilton, who earned seven points.

Carrizozo's loss dropped their record down to 0-17. As for Mountainair, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-17.

Coincidentally, Carrizozo and Mountainair will both be playing Corona/Vaughn the next time they take the court. Mountainair will head out to face Corona/Vaughn at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Carrizozo will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
