Basketball Recap: Oak Grove Comes Up Short

Oak Grove was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 61-56 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hanceville Bulldogs. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 72-57 back in December of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Oak Grove saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Eli Hudson posted 15 points. Another player making a difference was Zyontae Hubbard, who put up 11 points.

Oak Grove's loss dropped their record down to 2-17. As for Hanceville, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-13.

Oak Grove and Tuscaloosa Academy will face off at 1:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Tuscaloosa Academy will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Oak Grove surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hanceville, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Holly Pond at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
