Basketball Recap: Utica Academy of Science Extends Winning Streak to Three

Utica Academy of Science waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Clinton Comets 61-40. The Atoms have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Comets, too.

Utica Academy of Science's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Akol Machteng led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 14 boards. The dominant performance also gave Machteng a new career-high in assists (four). Yahzir Grimes was another key player, going 7 for 13 on his way to 19 points.

Utica Academy of Science smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Utica Academy of Science pushed their record up to 3-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.3 points per game. As for Clinton, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Utica Academy of Science will take on Sherburne-Earlville in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Clinton, they will host Herkimer at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
